Compact scanners that fit in your pocket or bag

Brother’s three new mobile scanners make it easier than ever to convert your paper documents into digital ones, wherever you are. These Brother scanners are powered via a PC’s USB 3.0 port, although the largest model also has a built-in Li-ion battery.

Most people think of scanners as devices you have around the office, not something you can keep in a shoulder bag or coat pocket. Although often it would be practical if you could. Well, that option is now here.

Brother has had great success with mobile printers and is now launching the new DSmobile scanner range. They are small and compact, so they are easy to take with you wherever you go, when you are out and about at customers’ premises and need to scan documents, spreadsheets or agreements. The scanners convert paper documents into digital formats that you can work in directly on a PC or forward by e-mail.

That may be useful for workmen, sales staff, accountants or engineers who have documents they need to have digitised immediately.

Brother’s three new mobile scanners are powered via a PC’s USB 3.0 port. The largest model also has a built-in Li-ion battery that ensures that it can operate without needing to be connected to a computer.

Three mobile models

Brother’s new elegant and practical family of mobile scanners consists of three models. They come in different price ranges, and their features and functions will appeal to users with varying needs and requirements.

The smallest model – the Brother DSmobile DS-640 – is simple and easy to use. It can scan up to 15 pages (A4) per minute in b&w or colour. The accompanying software makes it easy to scan everything from documents in standard formats to smaller documents, such as receipts and ID cards. The DS-640 is powered via the USB 3.0 port on the user’s laptop or PC.

The Brother DSmobile DS-740D is more advanced. It can therefore scan documents on both sides, optimising the workflow. The DS-740D scans documents in a “U-path action”, which is a space-saving paper feed mechanism. The DS-740D can scan A4 documents, receipts, ID cards and much more. This model is also powered via the USB 3.0 port on the user’s laptop or PC.

Last but not least is the DSmobile DS-940DW, which is Brother’s take on an ultra-mobile scanner for demanding users. It has a built-in rechargeable battery and can scan to micro SD cards, making it possible to scan, wherever you are, without needing to connect to a PC. The Brother DS-940DW offers the same speed as its little brother. This means that this model can also scan 15 pages in a minute, single-sided, and 30 ipm (15 sheets) when scanning double-sided documents using the “U-path” paper feed system.
