  3. REACH Statement

REACH stands for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals and aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment.

REACH applies to companies operating in Europe and means they face obligations relating to substances.

REACH Regulation No 1907/2006 is European legislation that came into force on 1st June 2007.

As a responsible and environmentally conscious company, we are fully committed to fulfilling the requirements of REACH regulations.

What is involved in REACH regulations?

Brother is required to gather information on the properties of chemical substances used in our products.

Substances have to be registered in a central database, which is run by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) according to a set timetable of phased deadlines, which continue to run up to 2018.

Working with our suppliers Brother has met all REACH deadlines to date and are working to ensure compliance with future deadlines.

Substances of Very High Concern

Under the legislation, we must continually monitor the substances within our products against REACH’s Candidate list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).

REACH requires that sufficient information on SVHC contained in ‘articles’ in concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) is communicated, to allow the safe use of the product.
Information about the presence of SVHC in Brother products can be found here: REACH statement
